This time of year can be very challenging for some people. Social events are on the rise; streets and shops are packed with eager customers and yet amongst this heaving throng of humanity there are those who experience profound loneliness.
According to Lifeline, “Loneliness is a feeling of sadness or distress because of a mismatch between the amount of social connection a person wants and the amount they have.”
Whilst it is always wise to seek professional help when these moods become a regular visitor in your life, there ARE some simple activities that can ease this painful emotional journey and support you on the road to mood stabilization.
.
Preparation is Key. Have a plan in place of ways to raise your spirits when lowered mood states creep into your world. Develop rituals and routines to make it easier to keep going even when your moods subside. Consider this: Lack of loneliness does not necessarily equate to being around people. Lack of loneliness could be described as ‘contentment’ with one’s circumstances and self.
- Set up your Emotional Sanctuary either IN or outside of your house.
- Gain clarity on HOW you WANT to feel and what the opposite of being lonely will mean. You might like to call this opposite state, ‘being connected’ or ‘content’ – you decide. What will you be doing/feeling when you are ‘connected’/’content’?
- Who do you want to be connected to? Are you feeling connected with yourself? Take the time to get to know YOU, develop YOU and learn to LOVE your own company!
- See the VALUE in time spent alone – cultivate your imagination; utilize the quiet time/space to meditate; dream and master the art of stillness. Inspiration and insight love silence and space!
- Intentionally Breathe to bring you more self-awareness and to allow energy into your cells and expel toxic air and emotions.
- Balance water intake.
- Aim to get outside and walk – even for 10 mins a day. E-motions move through our bodies – sometimes they are slow and become stagnant. Extra Motion (E-Motion) can help to shift mindset – even if it is a walk to the letterbox and back once, then twice, then 3 times a day.
- Let life SHINE on you! Get your daily dose of sun and Vitamin D – it is essential for your wellness.
- Get up close and personal with Nature - Simply standing on your lawn with bare feet is a wonderful start.
- Diffuse your doTERRA essential oils night and day. You might like to partner the following:
- Frankincense – will help you dispel darkness and support feelings of spiritual connection
- Lavender Peace – encourages you to connect first with yourself and discover inner peace
- Litsea – invites you to recognize what is restricting your inner clarity, then deal with it and move into alignment with your true self and destiny
- Express Gratitude. Start your day by thinking of ONE thing for which to be grateful eg your eyes so you can see the morning light. If you can, write it down. Do this daily and you will soon be finding two things and three etc - gratitude has a way of bringing more things to you for which you can be thankful! AND you realize you are NEVER alone as there is a greater power on hand to support you at all times!
- Ask for help. This may be a loved one, a professional or your ‘higher power’. There is always someone who cares.
