I am a great believer In taking time for ‘self’ and creating rituals to impress upon ourselves that we deserve attention and ‘self care’!
I think of mine as Magpie Time.
Nature always calls to me! I guess it’s not surprising I have an affinity with wildlife as I grew up in the isolated Outback of Australia on the QLD/NT border and Humans, especially the child-versions, were in short supply!
Being the youngest of five children meant I often resorted to my imagination vault when my siblings tired of my games or I would set off on a mini adventure into our large backyard that extended across the flats and down to the creek. Mind you, I always had to tell Mum where I was going and get permission before I left.
Whilst I didn’t appreciate it then, time has a way of revealing the lesson in the moment and those sole journeys into the recesses of my mind and the hours spent observing nature means that now, I am comfortable in my own space/skin and can be mesmerized by the antics of my feathered friends and other species of fauna!
So, back to Magpie Time!
I am blessed to have a shower that has expansive windows overlooking the lawn under the native trees in the yard and this creates a calming backdrop to my morning rituals.
A few drops of doTerra’s Aromatouch blend on my brush and my daily ‘dry brushing’ begins as I watch the Magpie family hop around on the grass seeking their early sustenance in the form of bugs and worms. I smile at their antics and ‘smiling’ is always a wonderful way to start the day!
I follow this ‘skin invigoration’ with a drop of Peppermint oil on the shower floor and that, combined with the hot water that helps to ease my ‘structure’, ensures my airways are open and ready for action for the day! I do this in an almost mediatative state, silently expressing gratitude for all that I am and have and overlooking the paddocks, the trees, the magpies and the occasional wallaby.
I follow this by ‘aromatically dressing’. This is simply mixing whatever essential oil I am drawn to with fractionated coconut oil or our unscented body lotion and applying to my body as I give thanks for what my body does for me. I do NOT rush. This MY time. This is MY sanctuary. I deserve it.
All this while my friends, the magpies, continue their morning serenades and THEIR morning practices totally oblivious of the naked woman watching from the window!
Would you like some help creating aromatic rituals to infuse in your day?
